Dia Internacional das Mulheres

O Dia Internacional das Mulheres é comemorado mundialmente no dia 08 de março. Atualmente, essa comemoração frisa a importância da mulher na sociedade e a história da luta pelos seus direitos.

Um dos primeiros acontecimentos relacionadas a essa data aconteceu em 1908, onde houve uma greve das mulheres que trabalhavam numa fábrica de confecção de camisas chamada Triangle Shirtwaist Company, localizada em Nova York. Em 5 de março de 1911, aconteceu um incêndio nesta mesma empresa, que vitimou 125 mulheres. Essa história é considerada um dos marcos para o estabelecimento do Dia das Mulheres.

Entretanto, ao longo da história, houveram outros acontecimentos, manifestações, greves e/ou comitês que recordam a luta das mulheres, que faziam longas jornadas de trabalho, recebiam salários muito baixos e não tinham direito ao voto. Em homenagem à luta e às conquistas das mulheres, o Dia Internacional da Mulher foi definitivamente instituído pela ONU no ano de 1975.

The International Women’s Day is celebrated worldwide on March 8th. Nowadays, this celebration emphasizes the importance of women in society and the fight for their rights.

One of the first events related to this date happened in 1908, in which, there was a strike of the women who worked in a manufacturing called Triangle Shirtwaist Company, located in New York. On March 5th, 1911 a fire happened on the same company, and 125 women died. This story is considered one of the landmarks for the institution of the Women Day.

However, throughout history, there were other events, protests, strikes and/or committees that highlight the women’s fights, who had long work journeys, were paid very little and didn’t have the right to vote. In honor of the women’s fights and achievements, the International Women’s Day was officially instituted by the UN in 1975.
